Carbodiimide crosslinkers

Carbodiimide crosslinkers are an excellent alternative for more hazardous isocyanate and aziridine crosslinkers. The carbodiimide crosslinkers are an ideal way to add additional properties to a waterborne coating or lacker.

Unique crosslinkers for a denser network

Crosslinkers are chemicals that react with various binders or with themselves to improve the physical and chemical properties of a coating. There are two major mechanisms by which crosslinkers can react: by reacting with a polymer or by reacting with themselves forming a so called interpenetrating network with the polymeric binder. The result? A much denser network, which is key in achieving improved performance in resistance against cleaning liquids, sun cream lotions, food stains and other chemicals.

  • Increased strength and hardness

  • Improved hydrolytical resistance (degradation by water)
  • Increased adhesion to substrates

Due to the high reactivity of crosslinker molecules it is important to consider the limited pot life of a formulated finish or coating after the addition of a crosslinker.
