Sustainability Seminars in Pakistan and Bangladesh

Stahl resumed its commitment to putting transparency into action with Sustainability Seminars in Pakistan and Bangladesh. From May 23 to May 25 2017 Michael Costello, Director Sustainability at Stahl, led the leather seminars in Lahore, Karachi and Dhaka. With these seminars, the market leader aims to familiarize local professionals with Stahl’s sustainability philosophy for the industry and related sustainable solutions. Around 600 professionals attended the seminars divided over the three events.

Stahl takes its responsibility to evolve the leather industry by investing heavily in education. By providing the right knowledge and education, Stahl accelerates the process of making the entire leather processing chain more sustainable. With the Sustainability Seminars, Stahl reaches out to the key leather clusters in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The first seminar took place in Lahore on May 23, followed by a session in Karachi on May 24. The third seminar was hosted in Dhaka on May 25.

“Stahl is market leader in specialty chemicals for leather. In terms of technical solutions, but also when it comes to knowledge and expertise,” states Michael Costello, Director Sustainability of Stahl. “We see it as our responsibility to share our in-house knowledge with others around the world, as we can only achieve a more sustainable and transparent leather supply chain by working together.” Tuncay Deriner, Managing Director SIPL & IPB Region at Stahl, is pleased with the high attendance for the Sustainability Seminars. “It’s great to see that our local customers are motivated to contribute to a future-proof industry,” he says. “Our experts are fully committed to help clients making the switch to more sustainable alternatives in leather production,” he continues.

The seminars started with an introduction to Stahl’s successful approach in which Sustainability is integrated into the overall corporate strategy. The next point on the agenda was the area of chemical compliance, emphasizing the historical reasons behind the recent launches of MRSLs and the change in responsibility that has occurred as a result. The differences between these industry initiatives like the ZDHC MRSL, and other compliance regulations like TSCA and REACH were also discussed.

The main body of the presentation showcased the innovative chemical technologies that Stahl recently introduced to tanners in order to reduce the impact of leather manufacturing on the environment. Key solutions included Proviera® - Probiotics for Leather™, Stahl EasyWhite Tan™ and Stahl Neo. Proviera® - Probiotics for Leather™ products for beamhouse stages, are based on a 100% degradable probiotic formulation, which ensures a reduction of chemical usage, water usage, and waste. Stahl EasyWhite Tan™ enables tanners to produce chrome-free leather, where the Stahl Neo portfolio consist of over 450 leather finish solutions that fully comply with the ZDHC MRSL guidelines or even exceed this standard. The seminars ended with a round-up and speech by the Directors of Stahl Pakistan Private Limited (SPPL) and the Local Manager of Stahl Bangladesh.
