Harry Stahl made his first finish in 1930. After the first positive responses of American tanners, Harry Stahl founded Stahl. He realized that he had discovered a gap in the market. Till then most tanners produced their own finishes to protect and color products made from leather. Thanks to the combination of quality and larger quantities produced by Harry Stahl, the increasing demands of the tanning industry could finally be fulfilled. From then on, tanners could concentrate on the tanning of hides. Harry Stahl enabled them to expand their business faster than ever.
Together with his sons Sam and Louis, the Stahl finish factory built up an excellent reputation in the first years of its existence. The success of the company enabled Harry Stahl to broaden his horizon. Harry Stahl went international to meet the growing demand for leather chemicals all around the world.
