In much of the coatings industry the performance of a coating is improved through crosslinking. The formation of a three-dimensional network by reaction of the crosslinker with the binderresults in improvements in wear, abrasion, and chemical resistance and durability. However, crosslinkers can have a downside, as they can be hazardous to use. In this respect Polycarbodiimides (CDIs), and especially water-based CDIs present significant advantages when compared to other crosslinkers. Their classification and long pot lives makes CDIs an easy to use, safe, and label-free crosslinking choice for water-based coatings.
