Q & A Gabriel Ara, Finance

Globally, Stahl has taken measures to limit the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Stahl people around the world continue to do their jobs with commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism, while observing the necessary safety and hygiene guidelines. Gabriel Ara of the Finance department at Stahl Iberica, is one of our colleagues that has seen big changes in his daily work. We asked him a few questions how the outbreak changed his daily work life.

What is your function what are your main responsibilities?
I am Gabriel Ara, I manage and control the figures of Stahl Iberica, Stahl Investment Spain and their reporting in BPC, under supervision of Financial Manager Mr. Xabier Perálvarez. Additionally, I take care of some Tax issues, as VAT, TWH and CIT of the corporate group Stahl in Spain.

How has the Covid-19 situation affected your daily worklife?
I am working at home since 13th of March. Fortunately, with a simple laptop and Stahl’s good connection via VPN, I have access to all my briefs, reports and obviously to SAP. It is not the same as to work in the office: the relationships with colleagues are not the same as face-to-face, but using some tools as Skype for Business, we can still work in teams.

Work at home combined with the family, children and lessons in remote etc. is not easy sometimes, so the work schedule has to be more flexible as compared to when you go to the office.

How did you adapt to the current situation?
For the Accountant & Finance area, a laptop and a connection to Stahl is a window to the world. The first thing that I do every day just after I connect is to open Skype for Business and seek a connection with my closest colleagues.

One problem is that it is difficult to print or scan, but on the other hand, print documents as .pdf could solve some situations. Instead of having printed information on a paper, screenshots and copy & paste in a document help me to have the info at sight instead of write notes in a paper.

Which positive changes have you experienced and wish you could to maintain?
Related to the previous point, sometimes it is not necessary to print drafts or some papers. Ultimately, it is also better for the environment. In addition, the possibility to work at home, for example 1 day at week, avoids taking the car to go to work.
