Stahl

Meet Adrian Adriansyah

In the 'People of Stahl' series, we talk to colleagues from around the world about what they do, what makes them tick, and what our purpose – Touching lives, for a better world – means to them. Here we sit down with Adrian Adriansyah, who is the Finance Officer at our site in Indonesia. Adrian reflects on a decade of teamwork and progress in his financial control role.

How long have you been with Stahl? What first attracted you to the company?

Stahl was just getting started in Indonesia when I joined in 2015. It’s a great privilege to have been part of Stahl’s progress there over the years. But in the beginning, it also came with a lot of responsibility, especially from a financial perspective.

Stahl is known here as a leader in the specialty coatings industry, so I felt very proud to be associated with a ‘big name’ company.

What is your role? Can you share an interesting fact about the work you do?

Being the Finance Officer means that I get to talk to colleagues from across the business. It can be a juggling act between competing priorities and high expectations of how the finance team can help with various projects.

At the heart of my role is simply making sure that every single expense is within our agreed budgets. But it’s not all about spending money. I also help the sales team meet their revenue targets by providing them with forecasts and reports on our progress.

What do you like most about working at Stahl, and what are the biggest challenges?

The teamwork at Stahl is fantastic. I’m pleasantly surprised at how collaborative it is to work in finance at Stahl!

I work with my colleagues across Indonesia every day, but I’ve found that our collaborative spirit can be found in Stahl colleagues across the world and at our headquarters in the Netherlands.

The challenge, of course, is to maintain this team spirit. However, I’m proud to say that I have worked for nine years here without any serious disagreements with my colleagues.

How does your work support Stahl’s purpose: Touching lives, for a better world?

As the Finance Officer, I have a front-row seat to all the activities that support Stahl’s purpose.

Quite simply, my job is to make sure that Stahl operates as efficiently as possible. Efficiency in this sense also means reducing our environmental impact, in line with our ESG Roadmap to 2030.

So, my role in financial control contributes to that purpose by looking at ways to reduce energy consumption and encourage paperless choices.

If you were CEO of Stahl for the day, what would you do?

I would start an initiative where Stahl colleagues could work together outside the office for a day. I think a change of scenery would be a fun opportunity to share creative thoughts and ideas about Stahl’s journey.

How do you spend your free time outside of work?

One of the things I enjoy doing is volunteering in my community. I’m involved in several social welfare initiatives.

Thanks for sharing your story, Adrian!

We are proud of our people who make a difference every day and strive for excellence together.
