Next-generation bio-based binder

Our Picassian® portfolio includes a bio-based binder that improves early and final block resistance. This protein-based binder is solvent-free and consists of 92% renewable content.

Unique crosslinkers that improve chemical resistance

Crosslinkers are chemicals that react with polymers to improve the physical and chemical properties of a coating. Using our crosslinkers opens the door to creating much denser networks, that deliver modified or improved strength and hardness, better chemical and abrasion resistance, better hydrolysis resistance, and better adhesion to substrates. Our Picassian® crosslinker range includes water-based and solvent-based systems consisting of isocyanate, aziridine and carbodiimide crosslinkers.

More sustainable carbodiimide crosslinkers

Our VOC-free carbodiimide crosslinkers are a more sustainable alternative to the isocyanate and aziridine crosslinkers that are generally used to improve a coating’s physical and chemical properties. That’s why their use is decreasing enormously in specific applications due to their toxicity, handling limitations and serious health risks for employees and customers. Even the latest aziridine market developments are still classified. Stahl’s carbodiimide crosslinkers have set a new standard, being the most sustainable, safe and easy-to-use option for high-performance crosslinking. We recently had the privilege to be able to help some leading global coating producers to make a successful transition from traditional aziridines towards our carbodiimide technology. Architectural coatings

Want to protect your architectural vision? Our eco-friendly Picassian® range’s outstanding performance has you covered. These water-based acrylics and polyurethanes enable our customers to develop zero- or low-VOC formulations with excellent properties and unique performance. This is why our self-crosslinking acrylic emulsions, cosolvent-free polyurethanes and VOC-free crosslinkers are so widely used throughout the architectural coatings value chain. Our self-crosslinking acrylics for wood, for example, are fast drying, easy to sand, show outstanding blocking resistance, and offer optimum surface properties.

Coil & industrial metals

Our family of Picassian® resins for industrial metal enhance adhesion and deliver excellent corrosion without compromising on performance. Our acrylics and polyurethanes create fast-drying hard surfaces with outstanding water, humidity and blister resistance for a wide range of metal substrates.

Printing & packaging

Our Picassian® solutions for packaging includes innovative polyurethanes and acrylics that meet the highest needs of this industry for a better consumer experience. Our polymers prevent delamination, enable composite food packaging to withstand cooking or freezing, deliver a pleasant feel and excellent blocking resistance. They also reduce webbing,making them easier to apply and speeding up the printing process.
