Stahl has a strong track record of co-creation and development – and through open innovation, we can innovate more efficiently, explore new markets, better address customer demands, and reduce the environmental impact of our solutions.
What is open innovation?
Open innovation is a term used to describe how organizations go beyond their internal boundaries to collaborate with external partners. By sharing knowledge and expertise more widely, organizations can solve problems and innovate in ways that would not be possible if they only focused on internal resources and capabilities.
Around the world, market and consumer demands are evolving rapidly while environmental challenges increasingly demand cooperation across the value chain. At the same time, digital technologies are creating whole new forms of collaboration. Open innovation allows stakeholders and partners to work together to solve complex problems and redefine what is possible.
Our open innovation framework
Stahl’s approach to open innovation focuses on sectors where we can make the biggest positive impact. Our partnerships are mostly concentrated in the following areas:
- Renewable feedstocks: working with biotechnology partners to de-fossilize our raw material and production processes
- Advanced functional chemistry: tapping into external expertise to develop enhanced chemical solutions for a variety of industries
- Water quality: co-developing solutions that reduce water consumption and pollution
Using our ‘scout, screen, develop’ strategy, we identify and connect to the right partners, allowing us to focus our resources on the most promising technologies and improve our chances of successful innovation.
This process is a constant cycle: we continue to scan the innovation landscape for new developments while exploring our current partnerships. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to lasting innovations in responsible chemistry by collaborating in cross-functional teams connecting both internal and external expertise & know-how.
