Ultrafunctional crosslinkers for high-performance, sustainable solutions

Hypac™ is our new range of patented crosslinker technologies for packaging coatings, bringing you superior performance and reduced toxicity and carbon footprint. This range includes traditional crosslinkers made using aziridine and isocyanate, as well as more sustainable carbodiimide crosslinkers.  

Versatile crosslinkers, whatever your application needs 

Highly-reactive crosslinkers are added to coating solutions to enhance their properties, creating more bonds and making the coating more resistant to cracks, abrasions, chemicals, moisture and impact. Crosslinkers also improve a coating’s hardness, flexibility and adhesion. These improved characteristics result in coatings that are easier to use, longer-lasting and in need of less frequent maintenance and replacement. 

Hypac™ includes conventional crosslinkers containing isocyanates, which include water-based systems, as well as crosslinkers made from aziridines, which cure at room temperature and are ideal for 2K high-performance coatings. 

The range also includes several carbodiimide crosslinkers, which provide the same high performance as traditional crosslinkers, but are more sustainable, and contain lower levels of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) ingredients, making them safer for human health. They are also mostly water-based, free from volatile organic compounds (VOCs), cure at room temperature, have a long pot life, and don’t yellow with age. Carbodiimides are also defined as non-hazardous under the Global Harmonized System (GHS) and are approved for indirect food contact applications. With their excellent adhesion and anti-soiling properties, they can be applied to a wide range of formulations while contributing to a lower environmental footprint.

The Hypac™ carbodiimide crosslinker range also includes several 2-stage reactivity crosslinkers, known as multifunctional carbodiimides, which have a second type of reactive group is attached to the polymer. 

These reactive groups react with other and further increase crosslinking, resulting in an even higher-performing coating with improved properties.
