Our Rinspeed Σtos smart-surface technology is turning headsScroll down to read more
In 2016, Stahl joined forces with Rinspeed, the creative think-tank and mobility lab for the automotive industry, for the first time. The result was the Rinspeed Ʃtos (Etos) concept car: a 'driverless car' with a futuristic and sustainable car interior featuring eye-catching technologies such as glow-in-the-dark leather and Stahl EasyWhite Tan™.
Stahl’s world of innovative and sustainable car interiors
We take pride in our work and collaborate with our partners to push boundaries and create innovative solutions. These solutions include the smart-surface technologies used in the Rinspeed Σtos.
Rinspeed opted to use special innovative surface finishes that were alien to car designers. For the interior of the Σtos, we used different substrates to create a sensory experience for the occupant. One of the technologies we integrated in the self-driving car was a glow-in-the-dark leather treatment for car interior surfaces. When driving at night the seats, dashboard, steering wheel and door panels start to glow, offering a completely new mobility experience.
In addition, all the leather used in the car was tanned with Stahl EasyWhite Tan™, while the surface finishing system used for the Rinspeed Σtos was Stahl’s industry leading PolyMatte®. We applied our Stahl Stay Clean® to protect the surfaces in the concept car against dirt and stains.
Luxurious matching fashion and lifestyle accessories
To complete the experience, we also developed a series of fashion and lifestyle accessories. The collection included sunglasses, iPhone sleeves, shoes, bags, belts, surfer-bags, longboards and even surfboards made out of leather. All the accessories feature the unique glow-in-the-dark technology to illuminate it while cruising the city streets at night. Most items were also finished with Stahl’s innovative Edge Paint. This gives your leather fashion item extra protection and an air of luxury.
